About
Mission:
The Philadelphia Suns organization seeks to build positive character qualities in our members so that they would be positive influences in our team & community, as well as productive team players in their personal & professional lives. Values we want to foster are hard work, teamwork, commitment, respect, self-control, and integrity.
History:
The Philadelphia Suns began in the 1970s as a handful of youths playing basketball in Chinatown. Since then, the Suns have grown to an incorporated organization of over 150 members with about 80 active members in our Men’s, Junior’s, Lady’s, Girl’s, and Youth programs. Although much of the activities are sports-related (basketball, lion dance, volleyball, and soccer), serving and building-up our community is our mission.
The Suns is a volunteer, non-profit organization funded through grants, fundraising events, and participant contributions.
Requirements and Commitments:
The Philadelphia Suns is a volunteer organization run solely on the generosity of its member’s time & energy. There are various levels of participation. Many are involved in the athletic programs while contributing to servicing the community. Some help out behind-the-scenes and take on leadership roles. Active commitment from all members is demonstrated by attendance at practices, meetings, outings, and participation in various affairs of the Suns throughout the year. Members proudly take ownership of their involvement with the Suns and its mission.
